POSITION: Library Director

LOCATION: Lewes Public Library -- Lewes, Delaware

DESCRIPTION: Lewes, Delaware is a Mid-Atlantic, vibrant, historical beach community with a small town ambience. The Lewes Public Library is seeking an Executive Director. The successful candidate must have a Masters in Library Science, Sociology, Business Administration, or the equivalent of any one of these degrees. The successful candidate must also have a minimum of five years' experience in a supervisory role and in dealing with personnel and the public.

The Library is currently conducting a Needs Assessment to determine whether expansion or construction of a new building will best serve its patrons. Knowledge of facility development and fund-raising would be definite assets. The new director will be working closely with an active and motivated Board of Directors and must administer that board's policies. The candidate will be asked, from time to time, to make policy recommendations to the board. The director is responsible for hiring, training, supervising and evaluating staff, which at the present time consists of four full-time employees and ten part-time employees. This experienced, professional staff includes several MLS and other Master degrees. The director deals with city, county and state officials. In dealing with civic organizations, a background in event programming would be an asset.

REQUIREMENTS: A thorough knowledge of theory, trends and management in library science is a requirement, as is experience in maintenance and continual development of our literary collection. This collection includes materials for all ages and various media. A solid background in budgeting is required and a basic understanding of auditing procedures would be helpful. Advanced computer skills are required, as well as knowledge of database management.

librarian with technical skills for the position of Information Systems
Librarian for Technical Services, which is responsible for ensuring the
efficient use of information systems for technical processing within the
Technical Services Group (TSG).

Duties include overseeing the workflow for automated acquisitions;
constructing reports from the integrated library system (ILS) and other
systems to support the needs of TSG; monitoring changes to MARC and ensuring
the ILS is fully updated; working on bibliographic projects, including
database clean-up; acting as the coordinator for TSG stakeholders when
implementing new functionality; applying knowledge of the ILS to technical
processing workflows to improve the efficiency and quality of technical
services work. Additional duties include ensuring TSG is making maximum use

position reports to the Director, Technical Services and works closely with

Programs and Systems division of the University Libraries.

REQUIREMENTS:Required Qualifications: an ALA-accredited MLS degree or
ALA-recognized foreign equivalent; experience working in an academic
library; knowledge of technologies related to an integrated library system
such as Voyager; some knowledge of library cataloging, including familiarity
with MARC records; working experience with PC-based operating systems and
applications including word processing, spreadsheets, or text editors;
proficiency in computer applications and utility tools for managing and
transferring data between different systems; good organizational and
interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly both verbally
and in writing; ability to handle multiple ongoing projects; ability to meet
reappointment and promotion criteria; strong analytical skills; and a strong
service orientation and commitment to professional growth and development.

Preferred qualifications: strong understanding of database concepts and
architecture; knowledge of Internet metadata standards, information exchange
standards and Web technologies such as MARC 21, Z39.50, EDI, OpenURL, OAI,
API, and XML/XSL.

Library in planning, implementing, and evaluating library services to meet

The Director of Eckles Library maintains an active liaison role with the

POSITION: Library Services Director

LOCATION: Loudoun County, VA

DESCRIPTION: Loudoun County is located in Northern Virginia,
approximately 40 miles west of the nation's capital. Of the county's
estimated 292,000 residents, those in eastern Loudoun County enjoy a
suburban environment with larger communities, while residents in the western

Loudoun County, Virginia is searching for a Director of Library Services to
oversee our award winning library system. The Loudoun County Public Library
System is ranked a Top Ten Library by the HAPLR index and a Starred Library
by Library Journal. The Library Services Director is appointed by the
Loudoun County Public Library Board of Trustees and reports directly to the
Library Board. This position oversees a department of approximately 190
employees with a budget of $11.4 million dollars. While the Library Board
has control of the expenditure of all funds in the library budget, they work
closely with the Library Director and look to the Director for counsel.
Loudoun County is seeking a well-rounded senior level professional to
oversee Library Services and build strong collaborative relationships with
public officials. This position will provide professional advice and receive
counsel from the Library Board of Trustees and the Board of Supervisors;
plan, coordinate, and direct all functions of the department, including day
to day oversight; prepare and administer the department's strategic plan and
budget; monitor, evaluate, and direct programs, policy and personnel in
keeping with the Library Board's directives; ensure the resources and
programs that are necessary to meet the evolving needs of the public are
met; provide leadership and vision to Library department staff; provide
timely information to the Library Board, County Administrator, other
stakeholders and advisory boards on a regular basis on significant issues in

years of directly related experience, which must include at least 5 years of
experience managing a major public library or library system serving a
population of at least 100,000 or more, and experience supervising
professional staff in a dynamic and challenging environment. Certification
as a professional librarian by the Commonwealth of Virginia, or ability to
obtain Virginia certification within 6 months of hire, is required. The
ability to work collaboratively with government officials and community
leaders is essential. Previous experience providing effective leadership to

implementing innovative approaches to revenue generation, customer service

Information Technology support (when there is no Campus IT Tech):
Responsible for maintaining computer lab and assisting students with
computer-related issues. In conjunction with Regional IT Support office, responsible for all campus
computers, printers, media cart equipment, and server room. Handles faculty
and student-based IT hardware and software needs and liaises with Regional
IT Support in fulfillment of campus IT duties and responsibilities. Ensures
security of all classroom computers and rooms in which computers are used
for teaching. Schedules audiovisual equipment usage for all instructors. As
needed, creates user accounts, changes cd or hard drive, updates & downloads
Strayer-approved programs. Prepares detailed, accurate, and timely support
documentation where required, including trouble tickets.

Other: Manages the creation and distribution of student identification cards
and parking passes. Attends staff meetings and training sessions as
requested and approved by Campus Dean. Supports the Dean during New Student
and New Faculty Orientations. Assists with coordinating menu, food delivery,
setup, and clean up after all academic functions. In conjunction with the
Campus Dean, interviews and recommends for hire any part-time LRC personnel
and manages such personnel, including provision of on-the-job training as
appropriate. Assists with MBS Direct buy-back and other University-sponsored

DESCRIPTION: Ferrum College's Stanley Library seeks an experienced,
creative, collaborative, teaching and research oriented librarian to
coordinate its public services program. The successful candidate will be
able to demonstrate her or his experiences and skills in providing
individual and group instruction in critical thinking information literacy
skills. Demonstrated abilities to teach effective use of both electronic and
traditional print resources to support classroom and individual instruction
is a priority qualification for this position. Knowledge of and experience
with data management is also a requirement. The position is a full-time,

The three-story, 40,000-squarefoot library houses over 110,000 physical

the fall of 2003, the Writing Center, the Mathematics Center, the Academic
Resources Center, Disability Services, ad the Information Services Help
Desk. The Head of Public Services hires, supervises, and evaluates 10-15
work study student employees, and reports to the Director of the Library.
Responsibilities include: Promoting and publicizing database searching of
the library's paid subscription databases and effective use of the library's
interlibrary loan service.

· Working with the Gateway Seminar and other academic programs to
develop a comprehensive bibliographic instruction program that provides
effective research support for classroom teaching. Working with the Director
to ensure delivery of library services to distance education students and
faculty. Staffing the reference and research area for at least three hours a
day. Hiring, training and supervising experienced student work-study
employees to do minimal level direction type reference and circulation
duties. · Working with the Director and other librarian(s) to keep
faculty informed about online and paper formats of reference sources that
are specific to their disciplines ; Evaluating and building the collections
in consultation with other faculty members and other librarians. Conducting
individual reference consultations with students and faculty who request
appointments. Maintaining the circulation module of the integrated catalog,
and supervising related circulation duties, such as sending out periodic
overdue notices, billing for lost items, trouble-shooting specific problems
with patron records, and running circulation reports as needed.

REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications: Master's degree in library science (MLS or
MLIS) from accredited ALA program is required; additional master's degree is
preferred.

Five years of collegiate library reference work or related teaching/research
experience at the collegiate level is preferred. Demonstrated successful
participation in a collaborative, consultative environment. Demonstrated
ability to work diligently and effectively with students, staff, teaching
faculty, researchers and administrators.

effective communication professionals. Teaches subject specific instruction
sessions and participates in the baseline information literacy instruction
for all students. Creates appropriate online tools to support SOC students
and faculty. Supports interdisciplinary initiatives across academic units
that require expertise in communication librarianship. Identifies

The Communication Librarian is a member of the Division of Research,

Library faculty members participate in library governance activities. The
Communication Librarian also consults regularly with the SOC teaching
faculty and administrators. Library faculty members are expected to develop
professionally, to contribute to creative and scholarly research, and to
participate in campus-wide and library-wide activities.

REQUIREMENTS: ALA accredited M.L.S.; graduate degree in a communication
related field or more than five years experience as a communication

Shenandoah history. The Reuel B. Pritchett Museum is a general history
museum that exhibits over 10,000 items of historic and/or local value
ranging from antiquities to the 20th century. While not exclusively, many
items relate to Bridgewater College, Church of the Brethren history,
Rockingham County, and the Shenandoah Valley.

Founded in 1880 with historic ties to the Church of the Brethren,
Bridgewater College is an independent, co-educational, liberal arts college
located in the scenic and historic Shenandoah Valley of Virginia; the

DESCRIPTION: Harford County Public Library (HCPL) Board of Trustees is
seeking a dynamic library director who possesses great people skills to lead
an innovative and Library Journal 4-star rated public library with a FY11
budget of $17,845,798. HCPL staff continue to lead the way in connecting
people with information and promoting the love of reading through our 12
locations (11 branches + library administration office) which serve 246,433
citizens and circulates almost 5,000,000 items yearly.

The Director oversees all management and operations functions and promotes
the success, growth, public image and fiscal stability of the library system

relationships; develops and implements the library's strategic plan for

position with direct supervisory experience; Strong knowledge of
responsibilities & activities associated with both business services and

Hampden-Sydney College is a selective liberal arts college for men enrolling
